Travel with Baby

So! We made it.  We flew with our little person to San Francisco and lived to tell about it.  :)  She was actually a huge trooper on the way there and back, considering her extraverted tendencies and how she can't sleep when there are exciting people to interact with (I have no idea where she gets this from).
On the way to SFO we lucked out and had a seat in our row that was empty, which we stuck her carseat in and she promptly passed out after feeding for a solid two hours.  Then it was only two hours of lap play and walking up and down aisles entertaining her and the other passengers.  That was actually incredible.

We took BART to Glen Park and hiked up the "hill" (those are mountains dammit), to our place.  Me with the stroller and Yan with two suitcases and a backpack up a 45 degree incline.  Dear lord in heaven I forgot what SF feels like on the tuchus.  We didn't take that hike again, we Uber'd every time.  We're bourgeois.

We brought contractor bags and duct tape to seal out the light from the windows in our apartment (I'm surprised nobody called us out on being serial killers at the airport).  She slept in just fine (until 6am) and then we hiked down to Glen Canyon and went to Canyon Market, stocked up on California goodness (dear lord their produce is just unbeatable) and then went to visit the Fishlins.  We met little Maya and hung out with them for the day, hitting up Golden Gate Park and walking around the Haight and up Cole for old time's sake.  We put her down at 6pm, left her with a sitter and went to dinner at the Fishlins to see all of the wonderful old friends.

In the morning on Saturday we awoke, got over to the Fishlins again and then headed over to Dolores Park after the morning nap.  I ran in to Bi-Rite and got snackage of incredible quality  and quantity and then combined with the snacks that we got at Cinderella we met our homies in the park and picnicked.  We headed home afterwards with Bi-Rite ice cream and then got ready for the wedding and headed out. The wedding was an epically Russian-Hipster affair with goodies like homemade jams and matryoshkas on every table to go along with the Russian fairy tale of the theme.  There were piroshki and a Russian-styled feast and I left feeling over-stuffed and not so healthy.  :)

We woke up after the wedding and my hero of a husband took our child when I asked for 15 more minutes and ended up keeping her for an hour.  Magic.  We headed over to breakfast with our friends for the last time, and then ended up heading over to the airport via BART. We headed home and this flight was completely full, no room for that blessed car seat.  We ended up having to hold her/ walk with her the entire time and although she did pass out for 30 minutes on the Bobby pillow and then for 10 minutes at the end of the flight she was over-tuckered out by the time we got home.  It really wasn't that bad though!  The amount of stress and anticipation I had for this trip was way more than what was warranted.  Yan even had a visible moment of panic when we were waiting for our plane at O'Hare where I could tell he wanted to bolt.

All in all, travel isn't so bad.  Nothing a little pre-planning and baby mum-mums can't handle.
